Morningside College will welcome first-year students to campus during orientation activities scheduled from Saturday, Aug. 16, through Tuesday, Aug. 19. Fall semester classes for all Morningside students begin Wednesday, Aug. 20.

According to Lillian Lopez, Morningside’s vice president for advising, the orientation schedule is designed to help students make the transition to college life.

“The activities we have planned for Morningside’s Class of 2018 will make it easier for students to meet each other and become better acquainted with our campus,” Lopez said. “By the end of orientation, they will be ready to successfully start their first year of classes at Morningside.”

Freshmen will move into residence halls from 8 a.m. to noon on Aug. 16. Other events scheduled during the day include distribution of notebook computers, an orientation lunch, a welcome to first-year seminar, a picnic supper, and a mentalist show in Eppley Auditorium.

Events scheduled for Sunday, Aug. 17, include a worship service, brunch, a “Morningside Olympics” competition and bingo.

Highlights for Monday, Aug. 18, include meetings with first-year advisers, an academic majors extravaganza, an activities fair, and a convocation for all first-year students.

On Tuesday, Aug. 19, students will meet in assigned classrooms for their first-year seminar class.
