Leslie Werden, associate professor and chair of writing and rhetoric at Morningside College, taught at The University of Teacher Education in Lucerne, Switzerland, last fall as part of a faculty exchange program.

She taught writing, literature and education courses. She also visited classrooms to help students with English vocabulary and pronunciation, read master’s degree theses and worked on curriculum development.

Werden will return to the university this spring to do additional curriculum development and to develop a conference she will host there in 2016 on “The Status of English as a Global Language in Education.”

“This experience has strengthened my belief in promoting global awareness in the classroom, and it has given me a stronger appreciation for what the faculty, staff and students have at Morningside with regard to educational opportunities and access to quality facilities,” Werden said.

Werden joined the Morningside faculty in 2006 as a member of the English department. Then in the fall of 2010, she became chair of the college’s new writing and rhetoric department. She has a doctorate in English from the University of North Dakota.
