Brandon Boesch, assistant professor of philosophy at Morningside College, contributed a chapter to the book “The Ethics of Giving: Philosophers’ Perspectives on Philanthropy” that was published recently by Oxford University Press.

The chapter, “Integrity, Identity, and Choosing a Charity,” discusses practical reasoning people should consider before deciding to donate money to a charity. Boesch argues that people should consider much more than just the net effects of their donation. They also should consider other factors, such as how that donation impacts their identity as a person.

Boesch joined the faculty at Morningside College this fall. He specializes in the philosophy of science and applied ethics, such as bioethics, environmental ethics and the ethics of philanthropy. Boesch has a Ph.D. in philosophy from the University of South Carolina.
