Almost 900 Morningside College students, faculty, staff and alumni will go “Into the Streets” for a morning of community service on Wednesday, Oct. 3.

Organized by Morningside’s chapter of Omicron Delta Kappa, a national leadership honor society, Into the Streets gives student groups and teams an opportunity to volunteer at about 70 different locations in the Sioux City area.

This is the first year that alumni have been recruited to participate in the event. In addition to individual volunteers, several companies offered their employees a paid day off work to participate. Those companies are Sterling Computers, Tyson Foods, Wells Fargo Bank and Central Bank.

“Central Bank always encourages our employees to support organizations they are passionate about,” said Matt Campbell, vice president – commercial loan officer at Central Bank. “This is a great event and we are excited to be involved.”

Volunteers will receive their agency assignments at 8 a.m. in Eppley Auditorium, 3625 Garretson Ave. From 8:30 a.m. to noon, they will accomplish a variety of service work, such as cleaning, painting, gardening, helping elementary school students and more.

Morningside students Maddie Dotzler of Omaha, Neb., and Nic Madsen of Le Mars, Iowa, are coordinating the service project with a student committee that includes Sam Anderson of Sioux City; Kevin Hancock of Grand Island, Neb.; Alex Homan of Omaha, Neb.; Abby Koch of Sioux City; Clare Kortlever of Orange City, Iowa; Kendra Kozisek of O’Neill, Neb.; Mikaela Livengood of Eagle Grove, Iowa; Sofia Marrufo Cedeno of Barquisimeto, Venezuela; Lynsey Matulka of Omaha, Neb.; Alexandra Nelson of Sioux Falls, S.D.; Kailyn Robert of Osage City, Kan.; Elizabeth Roop of Marcus, Iowa; Chloe Wetzbarger of Sioux City; and Nikki Yablonski of Omaha, Neb.
