Morningside College recently announced the winners of the all-campus student art show, which is on exhibit through Friday, Feb. 27, in the Eppley Art Gallery.

Morningside College recently announced the winners of the all-campus student art show, which is on exhibit through Friday, Feb. 27, in the Eppley Art Gallery, 3625 Garretson Ave.

In the graphic design category, first place went to Randy Chavez of Sioux City; second place went to Mikoto Aiba of Iwata, Japan; and third place went to Joelle Kruger of Woodward, Iowa. 

In the photography category, first place went to Marcos Pichinte of Sioux City; second place went to Emily Knapp of Sioux City; and third place went to Jessica Quail of Sac City, Iowa. 

In the studio art category, first place went to Michelle Vasquez of Sioux City; second place went to Summer Wulf of Denison, Iowa; and third place went to Anna Ryan of Omaha, Neb. Vasquez created a relief print titled “Rescuing a Life,” that also was awarded Best of Show. 

Honorable mentions were awarded to Shelby Blomberg of Marathon, Iowa; Caitlin Fieselman of Lincoln, Neb.; Elizabeth Sterling of Sioux City; Jessica Tietz of Bancroft, Neb.; and Brea Van Bochove of Rapid City, S.D.

The judges were Anthony Carton, assistant professor of graphic and interaction design at South Dakota State University in Brookings, and Emily Stokes, assistant professor of art at Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa.

The show features drawing, painting, graphic design, photography, printmaking, ceramics, sculpture and mixed media artwork. It is free and open to the public. The Eppley Art Gallery is open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., or upon request by calling 712-274-5229.
