The Morningside College Accounting Club was recognized with the Iowa CPAs Month of Service Team Community Spirit Award.

Sioux City, IA – The Morningside College Accounting Club was recognized with the Iowa CPAs Month of Service Team Community Spirit Award during the annual meeting for the Iowa Society of CPAs on May 1.

The Team Community Spirit Award recognizes a group for superior dedication in their community through the commitment of time and resources during the Iowa CPAs Month of Service event held annually in September. The Iowa CPAs Month of Service event promotes community service throughout Iowa by members of the Iowa Society of CPAs and within the profession of accounting.

The Morningside College Accounting Club partnered with the Food Bank of Siouxland to help package food backpacks for children at local schools and with the Siouxland Warming Shelter by conducting a semester-long clothing drive and delivering the clothing to the homeless shelter residents on opening night. The club members also took part in individual volunteer opportunities.

“I am especially proud that our club members set and reached a goal of working at least eight hours each during Iowa CPAs Month of Service in September,” said Twyla Rosenbaum, club advisor and associate professor in Morningside’s accounting and business department. “They are busy students with classes, internships, sports, and student activities, yet make volunteering through Accounting Club a top priority. The values they are establishing now will serve them well throughout their professional careers.”
