Dear Morningside Seniors and Graduate Students –

Yesterday, I announced with a heavy heart that Morningside would move all undergraduate classes online for the remainder of spring semester and close residence halls April 8. Today’s announcement is even more difficult to make: Morningside College is postponing both its undergraduate and graduate ceremonies in light of the continued spread of COVID-19.

As time allows, I’d ask you to watch this video so you can hear from me directly.

I am sure you can appreciate the circumstances that make this necessary, but it doesn’t make it easy to process. The traditions and events lost to this decision are significant. Your health and well-being, however, are more significant, and this action is necessary to protect our Morningside community and beyond.

To try and give us all something to look forward to in this time of uncertainty, we plan to hold a combined undergraduate and graduate commencement ceremony and reception at the Orpheum in Sioux City on Saturday, Aug. 8, 2020. Look for additional details coming to your inbox in a few weeks. I know this doesn’t replace what has been lost, but it’s important to me that you know that your achievements will be celebrated, even if it’s not how we originally envisioned.

Robin and I are so proud of each and every one of you. Finish spring semester strong. Please take care of yourselves and be well.

Sincerely,

John Reynders

President
