Caden McDonald received the GPAC Defensive Player of the Week award for the second time this season.

Caden McDonald, a 5-11, 210 lb. senior linebacker from Logan, Iowa, is the Hauff Mid-America Sports/Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in last Saturday’s 62-23 victory against Dordt College.

McDonald had a team-high 11 tackles with six solos and five assists and combined with Brad Wolf to drop the Defenders’ Brock Lamle for a nine-yard loss in the third quarter for the only quarterback sack of the game. He had three tackles in the Dordt backfield for losses of 10 yards.

He earned the GPAC Defensive Player of the Week award for the second time this season. McDonald earned the award the first time after he had five tackles and returned an interception 50 yards for a touchdown in the Mustangs’ 65-14 win against Tabor College.  

McDonald leads the Mustangs with 19 solos, 19 assists, 38 total tackles, five tackles behind the line of scrimmage for losses of 16 yards, two interceptions and one fumble recovery. McDonald returned both of his interceptions for touchdowns with a 50-yard return against Tabor and a 24-yard return in the Mustangs’ 35-30 victory against NCAA Division II Truman State University.

Morningside will take a 4-0 record into a 1:30 p.m. game against Northwestern College on Saturday, Sept. 30, in Orange City, Iowa.
