Corey Matthey was named the GPAC Men’s Golfer of the Week after he captured the league’s individual championship.

Corey Matthey, a freshman from Sergeant Bluff, Iowa, is the Hauff Mid-America Sports/Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Men’s Golfer of the Week for April 24-30.

Matthey had the fourth best individual score with a 54-hole total of 231 at last week’s GPAC Spring Qualifier Tournament at Woodland Hills Golf Course in Eagle, Neb. Matthey carded scores of 79, 77 and 75 on his way to the 2016-17 GPAC men’s golf individual championship and a berth in the upcoming 2017 NAIA Men’s Golf National Championship slated for May 16-19 at TPC Deer Run in Moline, Ill. Matthey, who went into the GPAC Spring Qualifier tied for third place in the individual standings following a 71 in last October’s GPAC Fall Qualifier tourney, finished with a four-round total of 302 for a three-stroke victory margin over runner-ups Tom Hogg of Dakota Wesleyan University and Joe Vest of Midland University.
