The 2014 edition of Kiosk, the Morningside College art and literary magazine, received a Gold Medal rating from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association. This is the highest rating a school can receive.

It is the sixth time in the last 10 years that Kiosk has received this honor.

Kiosk includes fiction, nonfiction, poetry and artwork created by students, alumni or members of the Morningside College community. The magazine was judged on written and visual content, concept and design, and how reader friendly it was.

Morningside students edit and design the publication. The 2014 edition featured Carly Hanson of Sioux City as editor-in-chief and Cassie Gillette of Sioux City as art editor. Hanson is a 2010 graduate of East High School and a 2014 graduate of Morningside College. Gillette is a 2011 graduate of North High School and a current student at Morningside.

“I continue to be impressed with the creativity, energy and attention to detail shown by the student writers and editors for Kiosk,” said Stephen Coyne, professor of English at Morningside and a Kiosk adviser. “It’s a tribute to the character of Morningside College.”

Other Kiosk advisers were John Kolbo, instructor of art, and Terri McGaffin, associate professor and chair of art.

The Columbia Scholastic Press Association, owned by Columbia University, is an international student press association that connects student journalists and faculty advisers at schools and colleges through educational conferences, idea exchanges, textbooks, critiques and award programs.
