Keegan Hessler went 3-0 last week to earn the NAIA National Wrestler of the Week award.

Keegan Hessler, a sophomore from Scottsbluff, Neb., was named the NAIA National Wrestler of the Week and the Hauff Mid-America Sports/Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Wrestler of the Week for Jan. 23-29.

Hessler, ranked 11th nationally in the NAIA 125 lb. division, won all three of his matches to improve his season’s record to 10-2 with four falls and stretch his winning streak to six consecutive matches.

Hessler’s biggest victory of the week came in last Saturday’s GPAC North Duals in Orange City, Iowa, when he upset No. 1-ranked Hugo Perez of Midland University with a 9-6 decision. Perez was the 125 lb. runner-up at last year’s NAIA National Championships. Hessler’s win helped the 17th-ranked Mustangs defeat No. 15 Midland 27-18.

Hessler pinned Austin Boles in 3:35 to help Morningside rout No. 20 Northwestern College 33-13 at the GPAC North Duals. Hessler’s other triumph came in last Thursday’s 19-18 victory against city rival Briar Cliff University with a come-from-behind 15-6 major decision against Kyle Robinson.

Morningside will face Doane University in a 7 p.m. home dual on Thursday.
