The Great Plains Athletic Conference has named its Sports Information Director of the Year award “The Rebby” in honor of the late Dave Rebstock.

Corey Westra, the commissioner of the Great Plains Athletic Conference, announced earlier this week that the league’s yearly Sports Information Director of the Year award will be named in perpetuity for the late Dave Rebstock.

Rebstock, fondly known as “Rebby”, arrived at Morningside College as SID and head golf coach in 1997. He served in his sports information role for more than 20 years, during which he earned one GPAC SID of The Year honor, before passing away suddenly last June. Before Morningside, Rebstock served as SID at Westmar College in Le Mars from 1990 to 1997 and sports editor for the Le Mars Daily Sentinel from 1981 to 1990.

“Honoring Dave in this way is a tribute to his legacy within the GPAC in the profession of sports information,” Westra said. “We will always miss him, and this award will serve as a great reminder of what he meant to us all and the type of person he was.”

The 2018-19 award winner, who will receive “The Rebby”, will be announced next week by the league office.

“Every year when this award is presented, we will have a reminder of the great man Rebby was and what he did (for all of us in the GPAC),” Westra concluded.
