Suzanna Gonzalez was named the Women’s Swimmer of the Meet at the 2017 Liberal Arts Championships.

Suzanna Gonzalez, a junior from Trabuco Canyon, Calif., was named the Women’s Swimmer of the Meet at last week’s Liberal Arts Championships held in Elsah, Ill.

Gonzalez broke four Morningside records and won two events with triumphs in the 500 and 1650-yard freestyles. She won the 500-yard freestyle with a school-record time of 5:01.43 and reigned in the 1650-yard freestyle with a school-record and meet-record time of         17:32.53.

Gonzalez also set a school record in the 200-yard freestyle when she finished second with a time of 1:54.72.

She broke the Mustangs’ record in the 1000-yard freestyle with a 10:31.89 split during her victory in the 1650-yard freestyle.

Gonzalez also helped the Mustangs break their school record in the women’s 800-yard freestyle relay when she combined with Ally Hecht, a freshman from Leavenworth, Kan.; Tracy Gates, a senior from Escondido, Calif.; and Evelyn Edge, a senior from Genoa City, Wis., for a fifth place time of 8:10.13.
