Tracy Gates, a junior from Escondido, Calif., placed fifth in the women’s 1650-yard freestyle during Saturday’s action at the Liberal Arts Championships swimming & diving meet in Elsah, Ill.

Gates had a time of 18:19.82 en route to the Mustangs’ top individual finish on Saturday.

John Dieter, a sophomore from Carroll, Iowa, made the finals in the men’s 100-yard freestyle and finished eighth with a time of 48.69 seconds.

Dieter helped lead the Mustangs to a fifth place finish in the men’s 400-yard freestyle relay, where he combined with Michael Andrlik, a senior from Ralston, Neb.; Tim Cohoon, a freshman from Buffalo, Wyo.; and Evan Persson, a junior from Blair, Neb., for a time of 3:14.75.

Persson finished ninth in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 48.61 seconds and Alex Paulsen, a junior from Carroll, Iowa, finished ninth in the men’s 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:03.31.

Veronica Mullen, a freshman from Omaha, Neb., finished 10th in the women’s 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:15.87.

Mullen combined with Krystal Samqua, a freshman from Salem, Neb.; Gates, and Evelyn Edge, a junior from Genoa City, Wis., for a 10th place time of 3:50.27 in the women’s 400-yard freestyle relay.

Morningside had 11th place finishes from Andrlik with a time of 2:17.33 in the men’s 200-yard breaststroke and Cohoon with a time of 49.51 in the men’s 100-yard freestyle.

The Mustangs had 12th place finishes from Edge with a time of 56.54 in the women’s 100-yard freestyle, Lucas Farrington, a freshman from Rockwell City, Iowa, with a time of 2:06.94 in the men’s 200-yard backstroke; and George Weiss, a freshman from Council Bluffs, Iowa, with a time of 2:17.74 in the men’s 200-yard breaststroke.

Tyler Halligan, a junior from North Platte, Neb., finished 13th in the men’s 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:07.73 and Carly Johnson, a freshman from Kansas City, Kan., finished 13th in the women’s 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:32.52.

Morningside had 14th place finishes from Alisia Woodward, a freshman from Waterloo, Iowa, with a time of 19:55.88 in the women’s 1650-yard freestyle; Madi Reynolds, a sophomore from Lolo, Montana, with a time of 2:51.58 in the women’s 200-yard breaststroke; and Joe Schueller, a sophomore from Pierre, S.D., with a time of 2:08.47 in the men’s 200-yard backstroke.
