Steven Garcia extended his winning streak to eight straight matches on his way to earning the GPAC Wrestler of the Week award.

Steven Garcia, a senior from Sergeant Bluff, Iowa, is the Hauff Mid-America Sports/Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Wrestler of the Week for Jan. 8-14.

Garcia won all four of his matches last week to extend his winning streak to eight straight victories and improve his season’s record to 15-3.

Garcia, ranked 11th nationally in the NAIA at 149 lbs., won a 10-3 decision against Devon Lyle to help lead the Mustangs to a 30-6 dual meet victory against the University of Jamestown and captured the 149 lb. individual title at the Dickinson State University Tyler Plummer Classic when he pinned Isiah Yates of the University of Providence in 6:48 in the title bout. Garcia also won by fall in the quarterfinals when he disposed of Colton Hillyard of Providence in 2:16. He trounced Jacob Berg of Dickinson State by a 19-4 technical fall in the semifinals.

Garcia won his second straight tournament championship after he had reigned in the 149 lb. division at the Central College Under Armour Invitational the previous weekend.

Morningside will travel to Crete, Neb., on Thursday for a 7 p.m. GPAC dual against Doane University.
