Garcia named to All-GPAC First Team For Third Time
Steven Garcia was named to the All-GPAC First Team for the third time in his Morningside wrestling career.
Steven Garcia, a junior 149 pounder from Sergeant Bluff, Iowa, was named to the 2016-17 All-Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Wrestling First Team as selected by the league’s head coaches.
Garcia was named to the All-GPAC First Team for the third year in a row. He has a 10-5 record with one fall this season and qualified for the upcoming NAIA Wrestling National Championships with a runner-up finish at the NAIA North National Qualifier Tournament last Saturday in Crete, Neb. Garcia earned NAIA All-America honors last year with a fourth place finish in the 149 lb. division at the NAIA Wrestling National Championships. Garcia has a career record of 64-25 record with 12 falls.
In addition to Garcia, the Mustangs placed Tyler Lashbrook and Logan Moore on the All-GPAC Second Team.
Lashbrook, a senior 157 pounder from Wellsburg, Iowa, has a 9-4 record with one fall. He qualified for the NAIA National Championships with a runner-up finish at the NAIA North National Qualifier. Lashbrook was a first-team All-GPAC selection in the 149 lb. division during the 2013-14 season and earned NAIA All-America honors that season with a sixth place finish at the NAIA National Championships. Lashbrook has a 35-13 record with three falls during his Morningside career.
Moore, a junior from Onawa, Iowa, had the Mustangs’ top individual finish at the NAIA North National Qualifier when he won the 184 lb. championship to qualify for the NAIA national tourney. Moore leads the Mustangs in victories with a 22-7 record with four falls. He has a career record of 43-29 with 10 falls.
Morningside’s Derik Bailey and Keegan Hessler received All-GPAC honorable mention recognition.
Bailey, a junior 165 pounder from Smithland, Iowa, has an 11-15 record with three falls and qualified for the NAIA National Championships with a runner-up finish at the NAIA North National Qualifier.
Hessler, a sophomore 125 pounder from Scottsbluff, Neb., has a 14-3 record with six falls. He qualified for the NAIA National Championships with a third place finish at the NAIA North National Qualifier. Hessler has a 33-11 record with 15 falls during his Morningside career.
Morningside posted a 6-5 record in its dual meet season and finished second in the GPAC standings with a 6-1 league mark.
