Abby Fitzgerald, a sophomore from Fairmont, Minn., led the Morningside College women’s tennis team in victories during the 2017-18 season.

Fitzgerald posted an 11-9 record as the Mustangs’ No. 2 singles player and combined with Erica Sherman, a senior from Red Oak, Iowa, for an 8-8 record at No. 1 doubles as part of the Mustangs’ top doubles tandem. Fitzgerald, who had a 2-1 doubles record when paired with Hanna Schoning, also topped the Mustangs with 21 combined singles and doubles triumphs.

Schoning, a junior from Arnold’s Park, Iowa, ranked second on the team with 20 combined singles and doubles triumphs with a 9-10 record at No. 3 singles and an 11-8 record as a doubles competitor. She led the team with 11 doubles victories.

Marilyn Cepeda, a freshman from Shenandoah, Iowa, was the Mustangs’ most consistent singles winner with a 10-4 record at No. 5 singles for a .714 winning percentage. Cepeda had a 5-4 record as a doubles competitor to finish third on the Mustangs with 15 combined singles and doubles victories.

Samantha Umberger, a sophomore from Glenwood, Iowa, posted a 9-5 record at No. 4 singles for a .643 winning percentage for the Mustangs’ second highest victory rate.

Ons Souissi, a junior from Ariana, Tunisia, compiled a 3-2 singles record in the fall season to raise her career record to 31-11 for the ninth highest singles victory total in Morningside history.

Morningside posted an 8-9 record during the 2017-18 season and finished sixth in the Great Plains Athletic Conference standings with a 2-5 league mark.
