SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Morningside University’s School of Visual and Performing Arts will host Finnish pianist Paavali Jumppanen for a solo recital in Eppley Auditorium on April 14. 

Mr. Jumppanen is currently the Artistic Director to the Australian National Academy of Music in Melbourne, Australia, a position he has held since 2021. Mr. Jumppanen has performed extensively in the United States, Europe, Japan, and Australia where he is known for his remarkable expressivity and intense musical curiosity.

Remarkable for his virtuosity and extraordinarily diverse repertoire, he has recently dedicated much of his time to performing cycles of the complete Beethoven and Mozart Piano Sonatas as well as all of the Beethoven Piano Concertos and chamber sonatas.  At a recent Carnegie Hall recital, The New York Times praised his “power and an extraordinary range of colors” and The Boston Globe praised him for the “overflowing energy of his musicianship.”  Mr. Jumppanen’s Morningside recital will include works by Bartok, Mozart, Chopin, and Debussy.

The recital is free and open to the public. The performance will take place at 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 14 in Eppley Auditorium.
