Susie Lubbers, assistant professor of education at Morningside College, recently presented at a Sioux City Community School District “We Teach Secondary” professional development day.
Lubbers presented “Motivating and Engaging Students: It Can Be Done in the Secondary Classroom,” which discussed how educators can motivate middle and high school students, and how they can engage students in their own learning. According to Lubbers, teachers need to get to know their students, learn a little about how their brains work, and examine their pedagogy in order to get the most out of the instructional time together in the classroom and beyond.
Lubbers could relate to the teachers since she taught at Sioux City East High School for 14 years before coming to Morningside College in 2006. She has a master’s degree from Southwest Minnesota State University.
