The College Database website ranks Morningside College as one of the top ten colleges in Iowa for teacher education.

The website ranks Morningside sixth on a list of the 26 public and private colleges and universities in Iowa that awarded the most education degrees during the 2012 academic year. The website shows that Morningside awarded 229 education degrees: 67 bachelor’s and 162 master’s.

The new list, titled “Top Colleges in Iowa: Shaping the Next Generation,” identifies the colleges making the largest impact on students by producing the most educators, according to Doug Jones, founder of The College Database.

“The schools on our lists illustrate tremendous commitment to the youth of today and tomorrow via teachers who graduate ready and willing to educate, inspire and lead,” Jones said.

To determine its ranking of Iowa colleges, the College Database analyzed datasets from multiple government and commercial sources, including the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) maintained by the U.S. Department of Education.

The College Database, headquartered in San Francisco, describes itself as a not-for-profit organization whose goal is to provide free information about education options both nationally and locally to students, parents and other interested parties.
