Evelyn Edge finished fourth in the women’s 500-yard freestyle for the Mustangs’ top Thursday finish at the Liberal Arts Championships.

Evelyn Edge, a junior from Genoa City, Wis., had the Mustangs’ top individual finish during Thursday’s action at the Liberal Arts Championships swimming & diving meet in Elsah, Ill.

Edge finished fourth in the women’s 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:18.28 and Mustang teammate Tracy Gates, a junior from Escondido, Calif., finished sixth with a time of 5:23.66.

Evan Persson, a junior from Blair, Neb., had the top individual finish for the Mustang men with a ninth place time of 22.36 seconds in the 50-yard freestyle.

Morningside’s other individuals who finished in the top 16 were John Dieter, a sophomore from Carroll, Iowa, with an 11th place time of 2:02.93 in the men’s 200-yard individual medley; Carly Johnson, a freshman from Kansas City, Kan., with a 13th place time of 2:25.63 in the women’s 200-yard individual medley; Krystal Samqua, a freshman from Salem, Neb., with a 15th place time of 26.11 in the women’s 50-yard freestyle; and Michael Andrlik, a senior from Ralston, Neb., with a 16th place time of 22.80 in the men’s 50-yard freestyle.

The Mustangs’ top relay finish came in the men’s 200-yard freestyle, where Dieter, Andrlik, Tim Cohoon, a freshman from Buffalo, Wyo., and Persson finished fifth with a time of 1:27.63.

The Mustangs finished seventh in the men’s 400-yard medley relay with a time of 3:41.30 from Tyler Halligan, a junior from North Platte, Neb., Andrlik, Alex Paulsen, a junior from Carroll, Iowa; and Cohoon.

Veronica Mullen, a freshman from Omaha, Neb., Samqua, Gates, and Edge combined for a seventh place time of 1:43.99 in the women’s 200-yard freestyle relay.

The Mustangs finished ninth in the women’s 400-yard medley relay with a time of 4:20.07 from Mullen, Alisia Woodward, a freshman from Waterloo, Iowa, Johnson, and Edge.

The Liberal Arts Championships will continue through Saturday.
