Three of the top high school pitchers in the Sioux City metro area have committed to attend Morningside College and compete for the Mustangs’ baseball team announced Morningside baseball head coach Brian Drent.

The recruits are Davis Camarigg and Hayden Godfrey of Sioux City and Cody Selig of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa.

The recruits are Davis Camarigg and Hayden Godfrey of Sioux City and Cody Selig of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa.

Camarigg is a senior at Sioux City East High School, where he was named to the first team of last year’s Class 3A All-District and All-Missouri River Activities Conference (RMAC) teams. Camarigg had a 9-1 record with a 2.51 earned run average for the Black Raiders. He allowed 54 hits and had 32 walks and 63 strikeouts in 61.1 innings pitched while holding the opposition to a .220 batting average. Camarigg had a season’s high nine strikeouts against Sergeant Bluff-Luton.

Godfrey is a senior at Sioux City East High School, where he earned first-team All-MRAC honors as a utility player last summer after he was one of the Black Raiders’ top pitchers and hitters. He had an 8-2 pitching record with a 2.02 earned run average. Godfrey allowed 49 hits in 52 innings pitched and limited opposing hitters to a .227 batting average. Godfrey had 53 strikeouts and walked only 14 batters. He had a season’s high eight strikeouts against Sergeant Bluff-Luton. At the plate, Godfrey collected 39 hits in 112 at-bats for a .348 batting average with four doubles, one triple, three home runs, 23 RBIs, and nine stolen bases.

Selig is a senior at Sergeant Bluff-Luton High School, where he earned first-team Class 3A All-District and All-MRAC laurels last season. Selig was the Warriors’ ace with an 8-3 record with one save and a 1.43 earned run average. He allowed only 44 hits in 68.1 innings pitched and limited the opposition to a paltry .183 batting average. Selig walked 24 batters and fanned 95 for an average of 1.39 strikeouts per inning. He had a season’s high 13 strikeouts in games against Council Bluffs Thomas Jefferson and Sioux City North.
