Neeia Cooperwood was named the 2015 Hauff Mid-America Sports/GPAC Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Athlete of the Year after she scored 40.75 points for the Mustangs at last weekend’s GPAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Sioux Center, Iowa.
Cooperwood won four events with victories in the long jump and the 100, 200, and 400-meter sprints and helped lead Morningside to a sixth place finish in the 400-meter relay.
She also received the Top Female Performance of the Meet award for her win in the 200-meters, where she ran a time of 23.85 seconds to break a conference record that had stood for 25 years. The old mark of 23.85 seconds was set by Concordia’s Carol Bailey in 1990.
