Ethan Scheffler of Columbus Lakeview High School is the latest men’s basketball recruit announced by Morningside head coach Jim Sykes.

Ethan Scheffler, a 6-4 forward from Columbus, Neb., will enroll at Morningside College this fall and compete for the men’s basketball team announced Mustangs’ men’s basketball head coach Jim Sykes.

Scheffler is a senior at Columbus Lakeview High School, where he averaged 10.7 points and 7.4 rebounds per game over his career as a four-year starter. He was a three-time Omaha World-Herald and Lincoln Journal-Star Class C-1 honorable mention all-stater as well as a three-time All-Central Conference and Columbus Telegram All-City selection. Scheffler was the Vikings’ leading scorer and rebounder each of the past two seasons.

Scheffler had 18 double-doubles as a senior en route to season’s averages of 16.6 points and 11.1 rebounds per game. He also led the team with 21 steals and was fourth on the team with 46 assists. Scheffler had shooting accuracy marks of 58 percent from the field and 71 percent from the free-throw line.

Morningside posted a 25-9 record and finished second in the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) standings with a 16-4 league mark during the 2013-14 season. The Mustangs defeated GPAC regular season champion Dordt College 87-85 in the title game of the GPAC Post-Season Tournament to earn their fourth NAIA Division II National Tournament berth in the last nine years.
