Dr. Patrick J. Murphy, an award-winning professor and researcher, will give a lecture on “Social Enterprise: Ventures that Do Well and Do Good” at Morningside College at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 12, in the UPS Auditorium in Lincoln Center.

Dr. Patrick J. Murphy, an award-winning professor and researcher, will give a lecture on “Social Enterprise: Ventures that Do Well and Do Good” at Morningside College at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 12, in the UPS Auditorium in Lincoln Center, 3627 Peters Ave.

The event is part of the Entrepreneur in Residence program at Morningside College. There will be a meet-and-greet in the lobby 30 minutes prior to the lecture. Both the meet-and-greet and the lecture are free and open to the public.

Murphy is a professor of management and entrepreneurship at DePaul University in Chicago. He is a 1997 graduate of Morningside College, and he has a Ph.D. from the University of Illinois-Chicago.

“I’m very excited to have Patrick back on campus to get caught up and to learn from him,” said Dr. Pam Mickelson, professor and chair of business administration at Morningside College. “It’s always fun to learn from my former students.”

Murphy lectures internationally and consults to entrepreneurs and firms in Chicago and beyond. He has been published extensively in leading scholarly journals and in such publications as Businessweek, USA Today and U.S. News & World Report.  His book, “Mutiny and Its Bounty: Leadership Lessons from the Age of Discovery,” was published in 2013 by Yale University Press. 

In 2017, Murphy was selected from 11 different Illinois colleges and universities as the Entrepreneurship Professor of the Year. In 2016, he was winner of Chicago Inno’s 50 on Fire in the education category for his impact on the Chicago innovation economy.

The Entrepreneur in Residence program is sponsored by the Morningside College Business Administration Department and the student Entrepreneurship Group. Together they bring speakers to campus who share their professional expertise with students and faculty.
