My name is Miyah Whitehead. I’m involved in women’s volleyball. I am a member of the Sustainable Environment Association (SEA). I’m Co-President of TriBeta, which is the Biology honor society organization. I’m a Peer Mentor. I’m in the Connie Weimer Women’s Leadership Program, and this is my second year as Director of Communications for Student Government.
The selling point for going to Morningside was Dr. Tim Sesterhen. During my visit, my mom and I went into his office, and I asked him ‘What’s that on your desk?’ He said they were beetles that produce an enzyme that digests styrofoam. He took us into the lab and showed us the experiments they were doing on crayfish behavior. He was genuinely interested in what I had to say, and he validated my feelings. It’s not just one professor, either; it’s something you experience all over campus.
If you’re a student, try anything that makes you happy. Don’t make choices based on trying to fit in. Don’t be the person who goes from class to their dorm and stays there. Please get involved. It makes your time so much more fulfilling. The connections I’ve made here by getting involved are so fulfilling.
