My name is Mia Wenzel, and I am from Luverne, Minnesota. It’s the only county in the state that doesn’t have a natural river, pond, or lake, and it is home to the world’s third-largest Nutcracker. I’m triple majoring in Counseling Psychology, Developmental Psychology, and Criminal Justice with a minor in English. I’m the president of Sigma Tau Delta, a member of the women’s tennis team, a peer mentor, a member of WOO Crew, Campus Media, and I work in Res Life.

I’m deeply passionate about making others feel included and valued. Growing up as a mixed-race girl in a predominantly white town, I often felt like I didn’t fully belong. Those experiences taught me how important it is to have someone who makes you feel seen and supported. I’m committed to being that person for others, ensuring everyone feels like they have a place to shine.

My coaches, Alex Struck and Cole Renkin, have had a big impact on my journey at Morningside. Along with the tennis team, the Res Life staff, Brett Lyon, and my Campus Media team from last year, they’ve given me support and a sense of community has made my experience at Morningside what it is today.

Advice I have for new students is to please leave your room. If you’re a commuter, come to activities happening on campus, meet people, talk to the WOO Crew and peer mentors, and don’t be afraid to say “Hello.” If you’re in clubs, sports, band, choir, or theater, you should talk to those people. Reach out to people in your classes. It doesn’t matter who they are or what their major is. Talk to people. It’s 100% worth it.

I came to Morningside on a whim. I was actually going to cancel my tour the day of, but I came here because campus looked so beautiful in October. I love this place and the people. I’ve been lucky and I’m very grateful to be here.
