“I want to be as helpful as possible, be there for students, because while I was familiar with campus, there were a lot of my classmates who didn’t know where to go for help with things, so I want to be able to help those students. As long as I’m making a difference and helping people become more comfortable on campus, then I feel like I’ve done my job.
I am a sophomore from Sergeant Bluff. I was originally planning to just stay close to home for my Gen-Ed classes then transfer to a different school, but I took some business classes and realized that Morningside had everything I needed. I am now a part of the CEO Club, and I also play for the Wind Ensemble. Outside of that, I’ve worked on the summer maintenance crew, in the IT department, am a part of the WOO Crew, and will be a peer mentor this year.
I started with the trombone in sixth grade, and my enjoyment for music has only grown since then. I went to the Morningside Jazz Fest while in high school and helped with it this year. I realized that all these students are in the same spot I was, where they’re nervous about coming in and they aren’t sure exactly what they’re doing. It’s a great experience to look back at, and now that I am a student here helping with the event, I hope I can help those high school students grow their love for music.
I like to get stuff done, and I like to be reliable. I want to be reliable to as many people as possible. While in IT, I helped create the portable IT help desk, where we appear at different places on campus to help students with any IT troubles they have.
My advice to students is to get involved early and keep going. Show up every day and keep going forward each day and it will help.”
