My name is Jennifer Amesquita, and I’m from Okoboji, IA. My college education began at Morningside, even though I ultimately finished my bachelor’s degree at another school. Despite transferring, the bonds I formed during those early days on the track and in the classroom lasted. I stayed close with people I met on campus, and we always look back on our great experiences there.

After finishing my RN, I spent a few years working as a nurse in the Lakes area. When I had children, I decided to step away from my career to raise them. Eventually, my kids grew older, and I found myself with more free time and a goal. I knew I wanted to grow as a leader and continue my education in healthcare.

That desire brought me right back to where my college journey began 20 years earlier. I enrolled in the Master of Science in Nursing – Clinical Nurse Leader (MSN-CNL) program at Morningside, and I completely love the experience.

The flexibility of the online format works perfectly for my schedule. You might think an online program would feel isolated, but the professors do an incredible job making class interactive. We stay highly engaged through thoughtful forum postings and regular interaction with our peers.

If I could share one piece of advice with anyone considering their next steps, it is simply this: “You are never too old to go back to school.”

Right now, we face a deep and critical nursing shortage. Stepping into this field, or advancing your skills within it, is vitally important. Nursing remains a wonderful career path, and I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to expand my leadership skills and make a bigger impact.
