IT Systems and Network Administrator

Morningside University is accepting applications for a full-time IT Systems and Network Administrator who is responsible for managing and maintaining the university’s Google Workspace Plus environment, Active Directory, network and VoIP system and infrastructure. This role ensures the efficient operation, security, and reliability of IT systems and services, supporting the academic and administrative needs of Morningside University.  This position also serves as a mentor to the end-user support team by providing advanced support to systems supported by IT.

Responsibilities: 

  • Google Workspace Plus Management
    • Administer and support Google Workspace Plus, including user account management, email services, and collaboration tools
    • Implement and enforce security policies and best practices with Google Workspace
    • Provide training and support to users on Google Workspace applications and features
    • Monitor and troubleshoot issues related to Google Workspace services
  • Active Directory and systems Management
    • Manage user accounts, groups, and organizational units, including creation, modification, and deletion, ensuring adherence to security policies and permission structures
    • Implement and maintain Active Director Domain Services (AD DS), including domain controllers
    • Configure and manage Group Policy Objects (GPOs) to enforce security settings and software deployment across the network
    • Monitor Active Directory performance, system health, and security logs to identify and resolve issues
    • Create and manage shared network drives
  • Network Infrastructure Management
    • Design, implement, and maintain the university’s network infrastructure, including LAN, WAN, and wireless networks
    • Ensure network security by implementing and maintaining firewalls, VPNs, and other security measures
    • Monitor network performance and troubleshoot connectivity issues
    • Manage network hardware and software upgrades, patches, and configurations
    • Maintain documentation of network configurations, processes, and service records
  • General IT Support
    • Provide advanced technical support to end users for hardware, software, and network-related issues
    • Collaborate with other IT staff to ensure seamless integration and operation of IT systems
    • Train the Help Desk and End user Support personnel to handle basic level support of systems and network devices and configurations
    • Participate in IT projects, including system upgrades and new technology deployments
    • Endure compliance with IT policies and procedures

Qualifications: 

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, or a related field
  • Relevant certifications such as ComTIA Network+, Google Workspace Administrator, or Microsoft Certified; Identity and Access Administrator Associate are preferred but not required
  • Experience in managing collaboration platforms such as Google Workspace or Microsoft 365
  • Strong knowledge of network protocols, security, and troubleshooting techniques
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and attention detail
  • Ability to work independently and as a part of a team
  • Physical ability to lift and move computer equipment
  • Ability to work on-call support if necessary

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with IT service management tools and ticketing systems
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively
  • Customer-focused attitude with a commitment to providing high-quality support
