Assistant Professor of Computer Science

The Department of Mathematical Sciences at Morningside University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Computer Science. This is a nine-month appointment beginning August 10, 2026, with a May Term teaching assignment every three years.

This position reflects Morningside University’s continued investment in a modern, applied, and student-centered approach to computer science education. We seek a faculty member who is enthusiastic about preparing students for a rapidly changing technical landscape, one that increasingly includes AI-enabled tools, large language models, ethical computing practices, and project-based learning, while maintaining strong foundations in core computer science concepts.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

  • Teach undergraduate computer science courses across multiple levels, including a mix of core courses and applied electives
  • Be able to teach in a variety of computer science areas. Examples include: introductory programming, data structures, software engineering, databases, web or full-stack development, data science, artificial intelligence, machine learning, cybersecurity, and systems
  • Contribute to the ongoing modernization of the computer science curriculum, including the development of new, forward-looking courses
  • Integrate project-based learning, collaborative work, and appropriate use of AI and computational tools, with attention to ethical and responsible practice
  • Teach courses in the general education curriculum, as needed
  • Advise and mentor undergraduate students
  • Lead and support student project teams, including collaborations with external partners such as local employers, community organizations, or interdisciplinary campus initiatives
  • Participate in departmental, university, and professional service appropriate to rank

Qualifications

  • Minimum required degree: Master’s degree in Computer Science or a closely related field
  • Candidates with significant industry experience are strongly encouraged to apply
  • Evidence of effective or promising teaching at the undergraduate level
  • Ability to work collaboratively with students, colleagues, and external partners
  • Strong communication skills and a commitment to inclusive, supportive learning environments

While traditional scholarly research is not required for this position, candidates should demonstrate creativity, initiative, and a commitment to high-quality undergraduate education.

Teaching Load

The standard teaching load is 24 credit hours per academic year, with a May Term assignment every three years.
