Aerospace education classes at Morningside College are accepting registrations for the program, which begins in June for students who have completed second through seventh grades.

“Space Cities” is designed for students who have completed second through fourth grades. The class is scheduled June 9 through 13 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. Students will design and build space stations using recycled materials and participate in experiments dealing with microgravity, rocketry, weightlessness and astronaut foods.

“Space Exploration” is scheduled June 16 through 20 for students who have completed grades four through seven or who have completed “Space Cities.” Sessions run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day.

“Space Exploration” includes experiments in robotics, rocketry, weather, space suit technology, satellites and hydroponics. Students will interact with an educational specialist from the Johnson Space Center and a geologist from the University of Iowa.

Aerospace education classes are organized and taught on the Morningside campus by Connie Richardson Smith, a Sioux City educator and consultant, and Mary Richardson Tester, an educator from Pawleys Island, S.C. The classes are a partnership with NASA and the Sioux City Public Museum.
