August 1, 2019, in Latest News, Profiles

Meet Sofia Marrufo Cedeño! Sofia is a senior biology major from Barquisimeto, Venezuela. Sofia is involved in ODK, Biology Honors, International Student Association, and Morningside Lacrosse. She is also a Tyson Foods Summer Community Intern with Just Roots Chicago.

At Just Roots Chicago, Sofia plants, harvests, waters, and weeds at the farm, and guides volunteer and learning programs at the farmers market. Overall, she promotes the access to local, sustainably grown foods around the community. Sofia’s favorite part about her internship is using her bilingual skills to connect people from different cultures in the volunteer and learning programs.

Sofia chose Morningside because it felt very welcoming and she liked the idea of attending a small college where she could easily adapt to a new culture and education system. Sofia’s favorite Morningside memory was having the opportunity to join the Morningside Lacrosse team.

Thank you to Tyson Foods, Illinois Campus Compact, and Just Roots Chicago for making thin experience possible for Sofia and all the Tyson Foods Summer Community interns.
