With a major in general psychology, Rachel Henks graduated from Morningside in 2018. Rachel has played softball since she was six years old and has never stopped playing the game. Upon transferring to Morningside, she was able to become a part of the team, but her journey with softball did not stop there.Rachel HenksRachel Henks '18, former Morningside College student and softball player, throws a pitch.

Beginning in 2018, Rachel flew to New Zealand and later the Netherlands to play softball professionally. She describes that she “had to face the challenge of making new friends and learn to be independent.” Although Rachel missed her friends and family back home, she says “it has been the best thing to happen to me.” As her parents supported her and inspired her to work hard but also keep having fun, Rachel has decided to stay in the Netherlands and is currently applying for a master’s program in Communication Sciences at the University of Amsterdam.

Rachel’s advice to current Morningside students and young alumni is to “make connections and stay in touch with those around you including faculty and staff. You never know how they may be able to help you in the future!” She also says, “Adulting isn’t easy 😉  but it’s much easier with the help of those around you!”

Rachel also encourages anyone who is thinking to pursue a career abroad to “JUST DO IT! It’s the opportunity of a lifetime and you never know what opportunities it may lead you towards. It’s been the best thing to happen to me and I recommend that anyone that has the chance to travel or live abroad, to take the chance!”
