Mustangs finish 3rd at Ottawa-Arizona Spring Invite
Morningside finished third in the Ottawa University-Arizona Spring Invite women’s golf tournament held Jan. 29 and 30 at Wigwam Golf Course in Litchfield Park, Arizona.
The Mustangs finished with a three-round total of 1014 strokes to finish behind 13th-ranked Oklahoma City and 12th-ranked Embry Riddle. Oklahoma City reigned over the six-team field with a score of 954 for a five-stroke victory margin over runner-up Embry Riddle. Morningside finished 18 strokes in front of tournament host Ottawa-Arizona for third place.
Freshmen Maria Zorrilla and Samantha Knight tied for seventh place in the individual standings with three-round scores of 248 to share Morningside individual honors. Zorrilla shots scores of 80, 85 and 83, while Knight opened with a 78 for the Mustangs’ top 18-hole score of the tournament before she finished with rounds of 82 and 88.
Alexandra Mankle also cracked the Top 20 with rounds of 86, 90 and 84 to finish 19th with a 260.
The Mustangs will have a two-month layoff before they complete in the William Penn Invitational on April 9 and 10 in Silvis, Ill.
