Golfers finish 10th in Arizona tourney

Morningside moved up one spot in the teams standings to finish in 10th place in the Arizona Christian Spring Invite men's golf tournament held at Moon Valley Country Club in Phoenix on Feb. 12 and 13.

The Mustangs were in 11th place after Monday's first two rounds.

Morningside finished with a three-round total of 907 strokes to finish nine shots out of ninth place behind Ottawa.

The Mustangs finished ahead of two nationally ranked teams at the tournament. Morningside finished 14 strokes in front of The Masters, ranked 15th in the latest NAIA poll, and four strokes in front of No. 25 Marymount.

Fourth-ranked Johnson & Wales topped the 14-team field with an 863 for a five-stroke victory margin over first day leader No. 12 British Columbia.

Cody Holck carded a one-under par 71 in Tuesday's final round to finish with a three round total of 225 for 25th place in the individual standings. Holck had scores of 80 and 74 in his first two rounds.

Jonathan Douglas finished just one stroke behind Holck with scores of 75, 75 and 76 for a 228 for 28th place.

The Mustangs will compete in the Southeast Community College Invitational on March 26 and 27 in Beatrice, Neb.
