The Morningside College Jazz Ensemble and Eclectix Vocal Jazz Ensemble will present a program of big band and vocal music at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 14, in Eppley Auditorium, 3625 Garretson Ave., on the Morningside campus. The concert is free and open to the public.
The program will feature a variety of styles within the jazz genre. Selections will include works by Cole Porter, Les Hooper, Rober Lamm, Sam Hart, Cy Coleman, Carolyn Leigh, John Coltrane, Quincy Jones, Bob Curnow, and an original composition by Zach Richardson performed by Morningside’s student Jazz Combo. Brian Hanegan, professor of saxophone at Morningside, will also be featured during the concert.
Both ensembles’ objective is to bring the finest vocal and instrumental, traditional and contemporary jazz literature to its audiences as well as represent Morningside College in the community. Both groups perform regularly in the community and throughout the region.
Tim Watson is assistant professor of music and director of choral activities at Morningside. Tony Hutchins is the director of instrumental jazz and low brass at Morningside.
