The Morningside College Mediation Team was named “Outstanding New Program” at the International Academy of Dispute Resolution's 14th annual Intercollegiate Mediation Tournament, held recently at Drake University Law School in Des Moines, Iowa.
Morningside students Victoria Dentler of Omaha, Neb., and Alex O'Neill of Ponca, Neb., ranked 12th out of 126 performances in the advocate/client category. The team of Cameron Oakley of Sioux City; Nicholas Misukanis of Mendota Heights, Minn.; and Amy Widman of Sergeant Bluff finished 7th out of 42 teams (national and international) in the advocate/client category.

The mediation competition gives students real life experience as a mediator, an attorney and a client. Three students make up a team, and each must participate as mediator in one of three preliminary rounds.
The Morningside College Mediation Team is coached by Alex Watters, Morningside’s assistant director of student success and coordinator of Campus Compact.
