The Morningside College Music Department will present an informal concert to celebrate the end of the school year at 5 p.m. Tuesday, April 27, in the Buhler Outdoor Performance Center, 3625 Garretson Ave. This event is free and open to the public.
The program will include student performances by the Eclectix Vocal Jazz Ensemble, an instrumental jazz ensemble, the Lyric Theatre Ensemble, a clarinet ensemble and soprano Katie Gorden.
The Eclectix Vocal Jazz Ensemble will perform selections such as “People Get Ready” by Curtis Mayfield and “Mario Kart Love Song” by Sam Hart. The instrumental jazz ensemble will present pieces such as “B for BB” by Hank Mobley and “Caravan” by Duke Ellington, Irving Mills and Juan Tizol.
The vocal and instrumental jazz ensembles also will perform a couple of songs together.
The Lyric Theatre Ensemble will perform a medley of songs from the Broadway musical “Rent,” and the clarinet ensemble will perform “Tango 1930” by Astor Piazzolla. Gorden will perform “Girl in 14G” by Jeanine Tesori, and she will be accompanied by Carolyn Price.
The Eclectix Vocal Jazz Ensemble is under the direction of Tim Watson, the instrumental jazz ensemble is under the direction of Dr. Tamey Anglley, the Lyric Theatre Ensemble is under the direction of Kate Saulsbury, and the clarinet ensemble is under the direction of Dr. Jay O’Leary. Gorden is a student of Dr. Gail Dooley.
