Students, Alumni & Friends Tour of Japan

Join the Morningside College Choir and Ag students on a fabulous Tour of Japan. 

We will be visiting Osaka, Hiroshima, Kyoto, Yamanashi City and Tokyo.

Below is information about each of the stops on the Tour of Japan!

Osaka and Hiroshima (May 17-21, 2018)

(1 night in flight and 3 nights in Osaka)
Meet on Thursday at Omaha International Airport for our early morning flight, connecting in Los Angeles for Osaka International Airport. Upon arrival at mid-afternoon on Friday, we check in to our accomadation, have dinner and rest! On Saturday we spend the morning on a Guided Sightseeing Tour of Osaka, with an afternoon arrival at #2 Seminar House. Choral students have a Rehearsal Exchange with the student musicians prior to the Evening Concert (Kansai Gaidai #2 Seminar House). Agriculture students will tour local farm/food processor/gardens. Dinner together with our university hosts after the performance.
Sunday we have a day-long excursion to Hiroshima, including the Peace Park. Informal concert. Food production and consumption to be discussed during this stop.

Kyoto (May 21-22, 2018)

(1 night in Kyoto)
On Monday we enjoy breakfast before our transfer to Kyoto.
Guided sightseeing tour (including entrance to Nijo Castle). Check into the hotel and dinner on your own.

Yamanashi City (May 22-24, 2018)

(2 nights in Yamanashi City)
Early Tuesday morning we transfer by high-speed train to Odawara Station (2.5 hours). We exit the train station and load the motor coach, visiting nearby Odawara Castle. Then in the afternoon, we visit St. Stephen's School in Oiso. Informal concert. We continue to Yamanashi City (2.5 hours), stopping for a photo of Mt. Fuji en route. We check into the hotel in the evening, meeting with representatives from Yamanashi University and the Sister City Program. Dinner provided. Wednesday we will have diverse itineraries, as each department will spend the day with their Japanese colleagues. In the evening we present a concert (university venue tbd). Dinner provided after the performance. On Thursday, we check out of the hotel, utilizing the bus to facilitate visits with the Yamanashi University Agricultural Department and local farming operations. In the late afternoon, we continue on to Tokyo.

Tokyo (May 24-27, 2018

(3 nights in Tokyo)
Thursday afternoon we arrive in Tokyo and check into the hotel. Dinner on your own. Each traveler will have a PASCO Card, allowing travel on the metro system and also discounts in resaurants and museums. Friday we have a full day of guided sightseeing, which will include a visit to the Tyson International Sales off (Ag students) and the Tsukiji Fish Market, free time for lunch in the trendy district of Shibuya and additional free time to explore this afternoon and evening. On Saturday morning we visit the Meiji Shinto Shrine. We have an alumni event, including a concert and reception this evening. Sunday morning we check out of the hotel before departing for the city of Fujisawa. We present a lunchtime concert for our friends in Fujisawa, then depart for Narita International Airport and check in for our 6 p.m. flight to LAX. We will be crossing the International Date Line on our return. We therefore arrive on Sunday morning into Los Angeles and later into Omaha. Welcome home!
