The Rosen Verdoorn Sports Center-Allee Gymnasium, located at 3415 Peters Avenue, is home to the Mustangs’ men’s and women’s basketball and men’s and women’s volleyball teams and also serves as the venue for the home competitions of the college's competitive cheer and dance teams.

The original facility, designed by architect William Buettler, was completed in November 1949 and featured two basketball floors, spectator balconies, a swimming pool, locker rooms, offices, the M-Club Room and over a mile of bleachers, seating 5000. The first competition in Allee Gym took place on Dec. 17, 1949, when Wisconsin River Falls State Teachers College defeated the Morningside men’s basketball team 56-43.

In 1991 the facility underwent a $2 million facelift, replacing the floor and bleachers.

The facility underwent a $3 million renovation project in 2007 as part of Morningside’s “This is Our Moment” Campaign. The building was renamed the Rosen Verdoorn Sports Center-Allee Gym in honor of Tom Rosen, a 1970 Morningside graduate, and Donald Verdoorn, a 1955 Morningside graduate, who made the naming gifts for the renovations of the facility.

The 2007 renovation project began in April and completed in September. The Buckingham M-Club Room, a coaches’ office suite, concession stands, ticket booth, lobby area, restrooms and locker rooms were completely renovated. In addition, a new roof, windows, heating system, cooling system and sound system were installed. The Buckingham M-Club Room, a gathering room that features a variety of Morningside sports memorabilia, was named in honor of Albert “Buck” Buckingham, a former coach and athletic director at Morningside.

The Rosen Verdoorn Sports Center-Allee Gym was dedicated on Nov. 9, 2007. Later that evening the Mustangs’ women’s basketball team trounced Viterbo 79-44 and the Morningside men’s basketball team defeated Black Hills State 76-67 in the first games played in the building following its dedication.

Since its 2007 renovation, a new weight room was constructed on the building’s upper level for use by all of the Mustangs’ athletic teams.
