My older brother is actually really involved in our community in South Dakota. He’s an activist in the community for African Americans and Native Americans, which is a really small population. He kind of just took me under his wing and made me passionate about all things partisan.
I would say probably a political commentator on the news. I’m a big fan of Don Lemon on CNN.
They gave me a ton of scholarships for academics and theatre, and the campus made me feel super welcome, especially my admissions counselor. She just kept on tugging me and tugging me into Morningside. Eventually I came to visit, and I just fell in love with the campus, the people, and everything like that.
A professor and I actually joined forces to create a black student union. There wasn’t one before I came here, so we created that and now have over 25 members. It’s going to be a regular social gathering to get to know each other and just be a comfortable spot on campus.
I joined Student Government as well. I’m also super excited to get involved in theatre. It’s something I’ve loved ever since I was a kid.
I was Tituba in The Crucible by Arthur Miller. She was a slave from Barbados. It was a big part and I loved playing her.
I think the Science Center is really pretty, as well as the library. The view is awesome.
I definitely should have brought a comfy chair. Maybe a Keurig as well.
