The Nylen School of Nursing offers a four-year baccalaureate nursing program leading to a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree.
Students learn to apply nursing knowledge and skills in multiple settings including our Simulation Center, Mercy Medical Center, Unity Point Health, St Luke’s and more than 20 other Siouxland healthcare agencies.
A variety of clinical experience exist in a range of fields including:
- Emergency room
- Labor and delivery
- Intensive Care Units
Opportunities are available for professional development by attending events that include:
- Iowa Association of Nursing Students Annual Convention
- Iowa Nurses Association Legislative Day
- Presenting nursing research at the Palmer Research Symposium
Our state-of-the-art Simulation Center features three patient rooms with high fidelity patient simulators, an exam room and a nurse’s station. On any given day, our SimMom delivers several newborns, SimBaby has the hiccups, SimMan has a code blue situation and SimJunior needs specialized pediatric care. Students practice true-to-life clinical decision-making and nursing skills in the simulation center. Events may be recorded for group debriefing that provide realistic experiences with real-time learning.
