Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT): Professional Educator

This master’s degree option is designed for every type of teacher. Taught 100% online, you will gain practical experience that can be immediately applied in the classroom

Program Specifics

A total of 36 credit hours are required to earn your MAT: Professional Educator degree. Work is completed in two 18-credit parts.

Professional Foundation Core – 18 credits

The first half of the program is designed for you to gain a broad knowledge base through the study of educational theory, research, and practice. These courses address the Five Core Propositions of the National Board of Professional Teaching Standards, the Iowa Teaching Standards, and the Graduate Program in Education's Student Learning Outcomes.

Professional Teaching Core – 18 credits

Based on your professional goals, select from the following options:

  • Online graduate courses offered by Morningside College -  see full course descriptions.
  • Transfer Credit – You may transfer up to nine graduate credits (B- grade or above) into a master's degree program, subject to approval.
  • Educational Partners - Take up to eight credit hours from our approved partner courses and apply them toward your master's degree.

Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT): Special Education
