Morningside College invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Music Education, a full-time tenure-track position, beginning August, 2018. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must have a minimum of five years of successful public school experience, demonstrate excellent musical and written communication skills, and possess competency in Kodály, Orff, and/or Dalcroze pedagogies. Doctorate in music education preferred, ABD or equivalent significant professional experience considered. Applicants must be knowledgeable regarding all aspects of a comprehensive music education program. Teaching experience at the collegiate level and experience in preparing and observing student teachers is preferred. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Building and maintaining a vibrant program in Music Education, in collaboration with education and music colleagues; ensemble conducting responsibilities are included, and new conducting opportunities may also be available. Active participation in student recruitment; demonstrating ongoing engagement with creative activity as scholarship through ensemble performance, individual performance and/or conducting with a regional, national, and international scope; teaching music education courses, advising music education students and mentoring student teachers; other courses depending on the candidate’s qualifications and the needs of the college; and fulfilling additional teaching duties as assigned by the Associate Dean for Performing Arts.
