Operations Manager-Terra Express
Location: Terra Centre Department: Terra Express

Position Description: This position is responsible for managing the daily operations of Terra Express to ensure maximum and profitable utilization of equipment and personnel. Terra Express has 48-state contract carriage authority with operations primarily in the Midwest and Southwest portions of the United States. The individual is responsible for the management of 2 truck dispatchers, 2 company drivers and 45 owner operators with sales projected for 2008 of approximately $10 million. This person must have a strong understanding of the transportation of bulk products in tank and pressurized trailers; as well as s good understanding of D.O.T. and I.C.C. regulations. A good understanding of trailer maintenance and functionality would be a plus.

Key Job Elements:
1) Manage the daily activities of the 2 dispatchers.
2) Assist in recruiting new and retaining existing company drivers and owner operators.
3) Increase productivity of drivers and increase earnings per mile.
4) Assist in training new and existing drivers on safety and compliance related issues.
5) Maintain and service existing customer base as well as solicit new business.
6) Negotiate lease rates on tractors and trailers.
7) Recommendation and purchase of trailers.
8) Responsible for compliance with I.C.C., D.O.T., and other regulatory bodies.
9) Develop & administer equipment maintenance programs & policies to control cost per mile and comply with D.O.T. regulations.
10) Expand the business and generate sufficient revenue to ensure profitability. Profit/Loss responsibility.
11) Develop/administer budget, plan/administer equipment requirements.

Position Requirements:
1) College degree or 3 – 5 years experience managing or supervising the fleet operations of a motor carrier.
2) Knowledge of D.O.T. regulations.
3) Trailer mechanical background.
4) Sales experience
5) On-call rotation requirement for dispatch activities.
6) Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
7) High level of initiative and the ability to work with little supervision.
8) Effective organization and time management skills to prioritize job responsibilities.
9) Proficient PC skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).
