CURATOR OF COLLECTIONS

GENERAL INFORMATION: The Siouxland Heritage Museums is currently accepting applications for a Curator of Collections to perform a variety of professional work in the acquisition and care of museum collections. This is a full time exempt position.

DUTIES: Establishes methods for and coordinates all preservation, conservation and restoration of museum objects. Seeks, receives and records new acquisitions and handles all records management pertaining to the collections. Establishes and supervises appropriate storage of all museum objects, library, and archival materials. Monitors the condition of objects and takes necessary precautions against poor environmental conditions in the collections storage and exhibit areas. Makes recommendations to the Collections Committee of the Board of Trustees on the acquisition and deaccession of objects; assists with grant writing; administers the Collection budget; and presents public programs in areas of expertise.

QUALIFICATIONS: Requires a graduate degree in museology, history, anthropology or related field and one year of professional museum experience OR a relevant bachelor’s degree with three years of experience. Full working knowledge of modern museum principles and practices including museum registration and cataloging procedures, collections care, basic conservation practices, and museum ethics. Ability to organize and coordinate the storage of collections. Ability to supervise and train employees and support staff. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, other agencies and the public.

SALARY AND BENEFITS: Starts at $1,617.04 to $1,748.88 biweekly. Minnehaha County offers an excellent comprehensive benefits package including medical and dental coverage for employees and dependents, retirement contributions, life insurance, and generous paid time off benefits.
