• FIRE CHIEF, $82,712 TO $115,821/DOQ. The City of Sioux City, IA, is seeking a Fire Chief with a proven track record of strong leadership, interpersonal and financial skills to lead a department of 113 sworn officers providing services from 7 fire stations. The Fire Chief is responsible for leading firefighting services for the 85,000 residents of Sioux City. Other department responsibilities include: arson investigation, fire prevention activities, fire safety inspection activities, public education, and administration of the Fire Department’s annual budget which amounts to $11,393,900. The Fire Chief reports directly to the City Manager. The ideal candidate will have experience and demonstrated commitment to community problem solving, have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, team leadership ability, possess a participative management style, and the ability to work with diverse groups and individuals. As a first step in ensuring that the new Fire Chief possesses appropriate levels of the above knowledge and abilities, the City is limiting applica-tions to individuals who have extensive experience in fire service as a Captain, Assistant Chief, Chief or equivalent in a community with a population of at least 50,000. Candidates should have a proven track record of successful leader-ship. Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in fire management, public or business administration, or other related field, supplemented by completion of approved training in fire department administration, operations, inspection and prevention is desired, but not required. Any equivalent combination of ex-perience, education and training, which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities, may be considered. Graduation from the National Fire Academy’s Executive Fire Officer Program is desirable, but not required.
