High school choirs from Le Mars, Iowa, and Sloan, Iowa, will perform new, original compositions during a Morningside College concert at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, April 13, in Eppley Auditorium, 3625 Garretson Avenue.

The Le Mars High School Chamber Choir and the Westwood High School Choir will perform the compositions, which were finalists in Morningside’s fourth annual choral composition contest held earlier this spring. Each of the winning composers – Paul Langholz of Clear Lake, Iowa, with “He’s Just the Same Today”; Madelyn Byrne of Escondido, Calif., with “Winds of May”; and Diane Mahoney of Burlington, Iowa, with “Mother of Exiles” – will conduct a clinic for the high school choirs in the afternoon prior to the concert.

The Morningside College Choir and Eclectix Jazz Choir also will perform during the concert.

“This event provides a unique opportunity to support and promote the creation of new choral music and for young musicians to interact with the composers who created the music they will be singing,” said Tim Watson, director of choral activities at Morningside.

The event has a $5 per person admission charge. Tickets will be available at the door. Proceeds will go to the continuation of this event.
