Brody Van Ginkel, a 6-0 point guard from Dakota Dunes, S.D., will enroll at Morningside College this fall and compete for the Mustangs’ men’s basketball team announced Morningside men’s basketball head coach Jim Sykes.

Van Ginkel is a senior at Dakota Valley High School, where he leads the team with an average of 6.2 assists per game and is the Panthers’ second leading scorer with an average of 17.1 points per game. He has made 78 of 187 field goal attempts for 41.7 percent, 39 of 89 3-point field goal attempts for 43.8 percent, and 44 of 59 free throw attempts for 74.6 percent.

He has scored in double figures in 12 of the Panthers’ first 14 contests this season. Van Ginkel drilled seven of 10 3-point field goal attempts when he scored a season’s high 34 points against Madison. He dealt a season’s high 10 assists in games against Beresford and Sergeant Bluff-Luton.

Van Ginkel was also the Panthers’ second leading scorer last season when he averaged 11.5 points per game to go along with a team-high 93 assists and 40 steals for norms of 4.2 assists and 1.8 steals per contest.

He is the brother of Blake Van Ginkel, a freshman guard on the Mustangs’ basketball team.
